Incepted in 2007, the 25-strong percussion outfit specializes in fusing modern funk, drum and bass and other unique beats with the traditionally ethnic Afro-Brazilian rhythms (samba, reggae, Bahian funk, afoxe). Purely percussive as a standalone band, Sambiesta features an army of drums that consists of surdos, caixas, repinique, tamborims, agogo bells, chocalhos, congas, djembes and timbals. The band has performed in local art and music festivals, corporate gigs and street- busking where crowds can be seen grooving to its infectious Samba rhythms. Recently in 2013, SAMBIESTA staged our annual production, “Crossfade” at the Esplanade outdoor theatre, with attendance of over 1000 and received overwhelming responses and rave reviews.
